MENTAL health patients in Rotherham are benefiting from a new healthy eating menu after it was discovered the food being served up was too fatty.

A pilot project has been launched by Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.

Previously the menus served up 50g of fat a day, when the recommended amount for a woman is 35g.

The new menu has fewer pastry dishes, healthier desserts and more fruit.

Nutritionist Kevin Williamson said: “It’s important we ensure patients have a nutritious, healthy diet and we hope they will continue to eat healthily when discharged.”
