Grant to help heart research

RESEARCH into cardiac disease in Sheffield has been given a £1 million boost through a charity grant.

The award, from the British Heart Foundation, will allow medics at Sheffield University to investigate artherosclerosis, a condition which can lead to angina, heart attacks and strokes.

Researchers will now be able to study whether specific genes contribute to the disease, which develops at branches and bends of arteries.

The results could lead potentially to new treatments.
