Golfers are swinging into action for Rotherham Round Table Golf Day, which aims to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Nineteen teams will take part in the event at Sitwell Park Golf Club on Friday to help the charity.

Motor Neurone Disease attacks nerves in the brain and spinal cord, stopping messages reaching the muscles and limiting mobility.

Round Table chairman Daniel Widdop said: “The Golf Day will be a fantastic day for all involved and an excellent way of raising money for a truly inspirational cause.”

Taylor Wimpey is sponsoring the event in recognition of its part exchange manager Steve Burns, who developed the disease in 2012.

Anne Bagshaw, sales and marketing director for Yorkshire, said: “As a valued, popular member of the team and a young person with so much to offer, everybody at Taylor Wimpey was extremely sad to learn that Steve had been diagnosed with MND.

“We admire Steve deeply for the spirit and grit he is showing which is extremely humbling.

“As such we were keen to do anything we could to support the event and help Rotherham Round Table raise as much money as possible for MNDA.”
