Embrace the fun factor at Sheffield charity run

Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s annual fun run is returning to Sheffield for the seventh time this summer.

The Run in the Park 3k fun run and 10k race will take place in Graves Park on Sunday, July 12.

Last year, more than 1,000 runners competed in the event, with many donning fancy dress to embrace the fun factor.

Father-of-two Gareth Williams, aged 39, has taken part in Run in the Park in 2011 and 2013 after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in September 2010.

Pub landlord, Gareth and his wife Sarah have raised £20,000 for the cancer charity in just four years by hosting various fundraising events as well as wearing fancy dress at Run in the Park.

Gareth, who owns The Union Hotel in Nether Edge, said: “Year on year we vowed to continue raising money for what is such an incredible and vital facility for the people in our region.

“We like to make each fundraising challenge fun for all involved and in 2011 our running team dressed up as pint pots and then again in ladies underwear in 2013 to run the 10k race through Graves Park.”
