Drug and alcohol treatment services in Doncaster are set to be integrated under one roof for the first time in the New Year.

Health experts hope the new service, to be known as Doncaster Drug and Alcohol Service, will provide an even better service after they are combined from January 7.

DDAS will be delivered as a partnership between Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust – RDaSH – and Doncaster Alcohol Services – DAS.

The new integrated service, based on Thorne Road, near the town centre, will help Doncaster people who need information, support or treatment with their substance or alcohol misuse.

Clients can self-refer, or their family, carer, GP or any other professionals can refer them with their consent.

RDaSH service manager Paula Brocklesby said: “The integrated service will improve access and availability to the people of Doncaster, and aims to educate people about effects and dangers of drugs and alcohol.

“Having services at one venue, Rosslyn House, will improve access, and partnership working means easier and better communication between professionals to improve service users’ experience.

“Clients can be reassured that there will be no increase in waiting times, and no reduction in the quality of service we provide. Staff will not change so clients will continue to see familiar faces.”

More than 2,000 clients access drug and alcohol services in Doncaster, including those who use specialist services such as pregnancy care and care of vulnerable people.

Helen Owen, chief executive of Doncaster Alcohol Services, said: “The integrated service reflects a recognition that we need to expand the provision of alcohol services and to look at new ways of meeting growing demand.”

Rosslyn House is at 37 Thorne Road, Doncaster, and can be reached on 01302 730956.

Opening hours for drop-ins are 11am to 5pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays, and 11am to 7pm on Monday and Thursdays.
