A new service for people with drug problems is set to be run by a Sheffield NHS trust.

Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust will lead a scheme for users of opiate and non-opiate drugs from October.

Support on offer will include psychological help, medication and education to get people back into work.

Chris Wood, leading the project for the trust, said: “We are excited to have secured this business and are looking forward to providing seamless services to individuals who experience problems as a result of drug use.”

Sheffield Council’s drug and alcohol team – DACT – is ‘streamlining’ its work by offering three programmes for people hooked on drink, over-the-counter and prescription drugs, cannabis and heroin.
