A substance misuse service has joined up with Rotherham United Football Club to help support young people with drug and alcohol problems.

Rotherham’s Know the Score team, which provides treatment and relapse prevention for people up to the age of 19, has sponsored the club’s fixture list in a bid to raise the profile of the service.

It has also started a running club to add further focus for youngsters involved in the programme.

Although based at Kimberworth Place in Rotherham, the service can now be accessed from children and young people’s mental health services as part of a bid to create a more improved and joined-up service.

Kate Boulton, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust worker, said: “It’s good for us to be able to be involved with Rotherham United as they can provide a focus for youngsters.

“Some people fall into substance abuse due to not having anything else to focus their attentions on.”

Paul Raynor, Rotherham United assistant manager, said: “It’s great to see the work the Know the Score workers are doing for youngsters across our area.

“You can see their enthusiasm for the work they’re doing and what it means to them.

“Youngsters need interests and the running club they set up sounds very good as well, as it keeps them fit and healthy as well as helping them.”
