Two disabled people from South Yorkshire were members of a regional team which triumphed at a national championship.

Angela Maiden, of Athersley and Jamie Cash, of Hoyland, both members of the Barnsley and Rockley Disabled Sports Club, were part of the South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire team that won the Rotary English Disabled Sports Team Championship, held in Coventry

Its was the 30th year the championships have been held, and the second time the South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire team has won following their success in 2010.

The other teams participating were Avon, Coventry, Gloucestershire, Hucknall, Leicestershire, Rugby, Wakefield and Warwickshire.

Stephen Woodcock, of Rockley Rotary Club, said: “The sports were boccia, darts, new age kurling, wheelchair pit stop, rifle shooting, wheelchair slalom, swimming, table tennis, triathlon and weightlifting.

“It was a wonderful weekend for all. Sport was enjoyed in a friendly atmosphere but competitive environment.”
