WORK is to begin next summer building new council homes on the site of a former sheltered housing scheme in Eckington.

North East Derbyshire District Council has approved proposals to include the Woodview House site in existing plans to build new council properties on Pitt Lane and Pipe Yard Lane.

The regeneration scheme is being delivered with Rykneld Homes, and involves the demolition of dozens of post-war concrete panel construction bungalows – known as ‘Tarrans’ – to be replaced with properties for rent.

Tarran bungalows in Killamarsh are also being replaced as part of the regeneration scheme – in total representing a £10.5million investment which will see 94 bungalows replaced with around 150 properties for rent.
