There are few meals more satisfying than steak pie - and a Sheffield chef today shares his tips to bake the perfect version.
James Barrett, who runs Barrett’s Bistro in Beauchief, has devised this week’s third special recipe for readers of The Star to try during the Great Pie and Peas Up in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.
The campaign is taking place for the second year running to fund a new inpatient unit at the Whirlow hospice.
We have pledged to raise £100,000 to pay for one of 14 single rooms – and so far The Star is more than halfway towards its six-figure target.
Readers are asked to host pie and pea suppers anytime during March, asking guests for donations in return.
A £10 minimum donation is suggested - as a guide, £50 could buy specialist pillows, £100 pays for a telephone and £200 would cover the cost of an over-bed table.
People can bake their own pies or buy them in – everyone who registers receives a pack with invitations, a poster and place mats.
Suppers can be hosted in homes, pubs, restaurants, workplaces and community centres. Other activities can also be added to events to raise extra funds, such as raffles, or making a dessert or starter to boost the menu.
Champion fundraisers are in line to win prizes in the form of specially-commissioned certificates by local artist Jim Connolly.
