A UNION has called for rents to be lowered on a care agency’s residential homes to help them fight back from the brink of going under.

The GMB has welcomed news from Southern Cross, which runs 29 care homes across South Yorkshire, that management are meeting with their principal landlords to discuss the financial restructuring of the business.

The company has said its current rent burden is unsustainable and now intends to step up discussions in a bid to secure lower charges.

GMB has spoken out about its fears for many elderly residents who could be made homeless if the company continues to struggle paying its rent.
