Care home’s seaside day

RESIDENTS at a Sheffield care home took a trip down memory lane as part of a fun activity organised to mark Dementia Awareness Week.

Brackenfield Hall care home in Frecheville organised the ‘Remember When’ afternoon, which saw staff recreate a seaside resort from the 1930s and 40s.

Residents were treated to a show performed by Joanne Brunt, who specialises in entertainment for those with dementia.

The show encouraged them to reminisce about their past holiday experiences.

Next they rifled through a box of costumes and trinkets which included a variety of seaside objects which residents could touch and feel.

Items in the treasure trove included sun hats, old fashioned buckets and spades, sticks of rock, boxes of sand and seashells.
