Chart-topping boyband One Direction hit the right note when they turned up to give brave South Yorkshire schoolgirl Niamh Power a boost as she battles cancer.

Niamh, aged eight, broke down in tears when the five-piece broke off from their world tour to meet her.

And band member Niall Horan posted a picture on Twitter and told his 3.3 million followers: “Met this amazing girl this morning, Niamh! Great morning, brave girl.”

The meeting in London was arranged after family friend Amanda Turner contacted the band’s agent through the charity Rays of Sunshine.

Niamh, of Maltby, Rotherham, has been battling a brain tumour for 15 months and has had four major operations.

Mum Marie, 40, said: “Niamh’s smile was big enough to fill the room, but as far as we’re concerned it always is.

“Everyone in the band spent time talking to her. And the photo Niall put on Twitter has now gone round the world to millions of fans.

“Harry, her favourite, gave her a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. She says she’s never going to wash that cheek again.”
