Work on a £1.2 million birthing suite at Barnsley Hospital is to begin this month after a contractor was chosen.
Town firm CD Potter & Sons has been named the principal contractor for the suite.
In January, the hospital was awarded funding from the Department of Health to transform its suite.
It was one of three South Yorkshire hospitals that received a share of £25m to improve and upgrade maternity services around the country.
The new state-of-the-art birth environment suite is to include three plumbed-in birthing pools, seven delivery suites, all with en-suite facilities, a dedicated bereavement suite and a room for partners to stay overnight.
John Rhodes, head of estates at Barnsley Hospital, said: “The facilities will be fantastic and the improvements will help to bring the birthing environment up to the very high standard of clinical care women in our maternity unit already receive.”
“We are delighted to appoint CD Potter & Sons.”
Work is expected to be completed by January.
