'He needs to shave off that beard' - what Alex Turner's mum was apparently overheard saying at Arctic Monkeys shop in Sheffield

His mother was reportedly among the hordes who descended on the Sheffield band's pop-up store in the city centre, which was set up to promote their new album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.

Amy Price tweeted how a group of women had turned up and were allowed to skip the queue after the shop opened on Friday.

"I googled it later and turns out she’s his mum!

"It's good to know your mum can still diss your hair no matter how famous you are."

Shaun Doane, of the Sheffield band Everly Pregnant Brothers, commented: "That's a Sheffield thing, no matter how famous you are your mam will still tell you that you're a scruffy get and tell you to get a shave and a haircut."

The story comes after a bizarre campaign was launched to 'banish the beard' sported by the Sheffield-born singer, which was derided as 'visually unappealing'.
