David Allen admits he is not in peak physical condition but does not think that will harm his chances of beating Nick Webb on Saturday night.

The Conisbrough heavyweight stepped into the fight at London’s O2 Arena at late notice.

And, despite his fitness, he is confident of inflicting a first career defeat on prospect Webb.

“I’m not in fantastic condition, I’m not really fit and I’m very heavy,” Allen said.

“But I’m a very experienced fighter.

“You probably shouldn’t say this about yourself but I’m a very hard man, very tough, very strong, can punch and I’ve got the experience now to get through ten rounds easy.”

Allen represents a step up in class for Webb, who has stopped ten of his previous 12 opponents.

Yet the Surrey fighter is seen as favourite for the contest, which Allen disputes.

He said: “No one is really expecting me to win.

“If this fight happened six months ago I’d have been a big favourite against Nick Webb.

“But after fighting the Olympic gold medalist, Tony Yoka, in France, getting beat, putting in a decent performance, I’m the underdog.

“So be it. In my eyes, I’m the favourite going into this fight.

“Nick Webb is fit but he’s not naturally as fir as me.

“I’m going in there really expecting to win.

“I expect to win because I don’t think Nick Webb is that good.”
