Have you heard the one?

I've really enjoyed reading supporters' jokes in reply to my previous letter regarding clowns.

Of course all football jokes can be twisted to whatever team you support but I particularly enjoyed the Castleton United/Hope one. I hadn’t heard that one before.

It brings to mind a story from a few years ago.

Sheffield United were playing Wycombe and a Blades supporter was asked by his wife what he was doing that day because it was their wedding anniversary.

He replied that he was going to Wycombe, going to the match and then going for something to eat back in Sheffield.

The wife immediately went into a silent mood and after a few hours of this treatment decided to reach an amicable agreement.

He told her he had just read in the Star that Harry Maguire, (ex-United player), thought Sheffield United would go through the entire season undefeated.

Come with me, he said, we’ll have a few drinks before the match, go to the game and when we return I’ll take you out for a slap-up meal for our anniversary.

The wife reluctantly agreed and when they arrived in Wycombe they went for a drink but the pub was absolutely packed with supporters, (at least 15 I heard).

The wife was glad to get out of there because following that they went to the game and what followed was even worse, United lost 1-0.

At least, she thought, I have a lovely meal to look forward to on back in Sheffield.

But every where they tried was fully booked so after an hour they got a takeaway and returned home to eat it.

The meal tasted horrible and they threw most of it away.

When they finally retired to bed the wife said it was the most boring day she had ever endured, to which the husband replied: “I don’t know what you’re moaning at, I have to go through that every Saturday and you think I am out enjoying myself”.
