Have your say

The summer season is upon us and it’s time to start thinking about your outfit for that wedding or race day - and it would not be complete without a hat.

Look no further for all your occasion headwear needs than The Hat Stand - Sheffield’s only dedicated hat pop-up shop - which returns to the Winter Garden next month.

The Hat Stand is a collaboration between three Sheffield-based milliners, Amanda Moon, Siobhan Nicholson and Sophie Cooke, offering the first dedicated city-centre hat shop in a generation.

Each woman runs their own hat-making business - Amanda’s Amanda Moon Headwear, Siobhan’s Siobhan Nicolson Millinery and Sophie’s Imogen’s Imagination.

Three years ago, they decided to bring their skills together, with the aim of bringing millinery to the city for the first time in 30 years.

The trio said: “We should be in competition with each other, however, we found our niche by working together.

“By using our connections and collaborating with each other, we can achieve far more than we ever could in isolation.

“We still run our own independent businesses throughout the year, but working alone can be lonely. It’s so reassuring to know that we have people to call on for advice, support and for making crazy ideas reality.”

They added: “We offer one of a kind off the peg designs and also bespoke design and re-trimming services.

“Each of us has our own individual style and we can provide skills and expertise that are no longer found on the modern high-street.

“We firmly believe there is a hat for everyone. It’s all about pairing your style and features with the best match for you.

“We regularly have clients at the shop who say ‘hats don’t suit me’ and we’ve always found something that is right for them.

“Even if we don’t have the exact match for a client’s outfit immediately available in store, our ability to make designs to order means that the client always has broad options to choose from - be it a change in the colour of a design, mix and matching decoration features, even down to finding a more appropriate colour elastic to match their hair.”

This year, the trio are excited to be part of Style Sheffield week, which has been co-ordinated by Sheffield BID.

They will host a launch party on Thursday, June 1 and also open late until 6.30pm on Thursday, June 8 as part of Alive After Five. The shop will remain open until Thursday, June 29.

The talented trio travel the country to give talks, demonstrations and workshops.
