‘Hate marches’ cost town £1m

ROTHERHAM MP Denis MacShane claims the town’s economy has lost £1 million due to demonstrations by far right groups.

The English Defence League and National Front have each marched through the town in protest after authorities were accused of ignoring the ‘grooming’ of girls by Asian men. Mr MacShane, who has called on the EDL to compensate affected businesses, said: “The total cost of policing and loss of business to Rotherham by hate groups parading through the town centre may be as high as £1 million.”

He accused the Government of ‘double standards’ after banning an EDL march in Walthamstow, in a Jewish area, but allowing the Rotherham events to go ahead.
