Happy to be alive '“ that's Sheffield boxer Jerome Wilson

Jerome Wilson has marked the fourth anniversary of a serious boxing injury by saying how grateful he is to be alive.

The Sheffield boxer, 33, suffered major head trauma during a fight with Serge Ambomo at iceSheffield.

He said while his life had changed forever, he has "to be very grateful that I'm still here, seeing my children grow and being with my family and friends.

"I don't take life for granted, anything can happen, so just do my best to do what's necessary in it to help others and myself and keep moving forward.'

He said he encountered 'many problems along the way, making mistakes, good or bad choices, but living life all the same.

"Today isn't much different from the days that have passed since my injury, as I live with the daily reminders of that fight and the life long effects it as on me to deal with.

"But I do use this day as a marker, to gauge how far I've come since the year before, each and every time a year passes by" said Wilson.

On his Facebook page, he added he was: 'Blessed and fortunate for another year alive.

'I have huge respect and admiration for all those that have tried to understand what I've been going through and have continued to show support and friendship.'
