It has become one of the talking points of the city and love it or not, a cornerstone of Sheffield shopping.

Today, Meadowhall Shopping Centre turns 25 years old - and a range of special events and activities have been organised in the centre to celebrate.

Throughout the day there are world record attempts at the centre.

The main dome at Meadowhall will host a Guinness World Record attempt live on the hour every hour from 11am to 5pm at Lower High Street near Thomson.

A spokesman for the centre said: “As part of our 25th birthday celebrations, we’re giving you the chance mark the occasion with a unique challenge that could secure your place in history next to Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Usain Bolt and many more!

“We’re giving you a fun and unique opportunity to become a Guinness World Records Title Holder.

“The excitement sets the stage for you to become:

· The fastest stacker with - Fastest time to stack 20 giant Lego bricks

· Smash the world record for Most t-shirts put on in 30 seconds

· Feel the friction as you close in on the record for the Most hand claps in 30 seconds.”

There will also be aerial performances in the Dome every hour from noon to 3pm on Sunday too.

As part of the celebrations, a series of ‘heart’ displays have been put up across the shopping centre celebrating key Sheffield organisations, including Darnall Forum and The Sheffield Star.
