Hannah's a hero, says PM

‘Baby Basics,’ created by mum-of-two Hannah Peck, has helped over 850 families to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby, since it was established in 2009.

And now Hannah’s dedication has been recognised with a Point of Light Award from the Prime Minister, who called her charity ‘a fantastic initiative.’

Hannah, ahed 35, said: “I’m delighted to accept the award on behalf of each member of the different Baby Basics teams across the country who choose to give up their time and energies to support the most vulnerable in their communities.

“I also accept on behalf of the midwives, social workers and other frontline professionals who work day in and day out with the vulnerable women and families we give to, they truly are points of lights and rays of hope to the communities they serve and care for.”

Baby Basics started at King’s Centre Church in Sheffield after a local midwife asked if families there could donate clothing. Hannah led a small group of mums to start collecting together whatever they could and the charity now helps families from 12 centres across England, each staffed by a team of volunteers that help provide thousands of items to families in need, supplying anything from buggies and cots to Moses baskets, clothes and toiletries.

David Cameron said: “With Baby Basics, Hannah has created a fantastic initiative to provide new mums who need extra support with essential items to give their babies a better start in life. I am delighted to recognise Hannah as the UK’s 528th UK Point of Light, an outstanding individual.”
