Hallam denied by controversial last-ditch penalty

A controversial penalty in the last of four minutes of stoppage time denied Hallam a deserved three-points as Glasshoughton Welfare snatched a 3-3 draw.

Hallam broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Kieran Watson turned a defender before sending a low drive inside the near post. Watson grabbed the second on 35 minutes, outpacing a defender to round the keeper after Currie had flicked on Richard Mintoft’s clearance.

Glasshoughton pulled one back when Ryan Poskitt thumped the ball ihome from close range.

Glasshoughton were ack on level terms just after the hour mark when Andy Horbury nodded in a cross from the right.

But Hallam wenr straight back up the other end and won a corner that saw Roebuck restore the lead with a towering header.

It looked like the winner until Glasshoughton mounted one last desperate attack. Jed Phillips appeared to have won the ball clearly just inside the box but to the fury of the home side the match official point to the penalty spot, which looked harsh in the least.

Poskitt stepped up to beat Dean with the last kick of the game.

The point was enough however to strengthened Hallam’s hold on the last play-off spot to six-points after closest rivals Knaresborough Town were beaten 2-0 at second-placed AFC Emley where Tom Brennan netted twice in the first half.

Penistone Church are a step closer sealing their place in the play-off after seeing off Yorkshire Amateur 4-2 at Church View Road..

Andy Ring scored twice in the opening 11 minutes with Ryan Smith extending the lead just past the half hour mark.

The Ammers pulled two goals back before Scott Whittingto hit Penistone’s fourth three minutes from time.

Dronfield Town picked up a good 1-1 draw at Brigg Town where Jamie Willis 37th minute effort cancelled out the hosts earlier opener. But Town are now without a win in eight.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic’s three match winning streak was brought to a halt with a 6-0 thumping at Eccleshill United.

Two late goals saw Clipstone end Handsworth Parramore’s five match winning run as the visitors left Sandy Lane 3-2 winners.

Ambers had been 2-1 up through Aaron Moxam and Jon Froggat.

Parkgate remain in the drop zone and two points from safety after slipping to a 2-0 defeat at Athersley Recreation, who had Jack Briscoe and Kaie Hancock on target. Before the match a presentation was made to Athersley’s captain Ryan White to mark his 1,000th game for the club over a 25-year period.

Second from bottom Armthopre Welfare also remain in deep trouble after a 2-1 home reversal against Worksop Town.

It had looked good for the hosts when Jason Kearsley gave them a 39th minute lead following a fine run and shot. But Kyle Jordan levelled 10 minutes into the second half heading in from a Adam Scott cross before putting another nail in Armthorpe’s relegation coffin with the winner from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Rock bottom Retford United picked up a good point from a goalless home draw against high-riding Pickering Town although the Badgers need to be picking three pointers if they are to avoid the drop.

Maltby Main beat Bottesford Town 1-0 at Muglet Lane where Shawn Mitchell’s clever chip on 72 minutes won the points.

Staveley MW eased to a comfortable 5-0 home win over relegation battling Barton Town OB.

The Trojans were in front on four minutes through a Callum Mawbey header with Josh Schofield’s superb strike doubling the lead seven minutes later.

Tyla Bell took centre stage after the break hitting a second half hat-trick to send the Staveley up to eighth in the table.
