A gunman threatened terrified staff during an armed robbery at a supermarket.
A man with his face covered and armed with a handgun carried out the raid at the Co-op store in Jaunty Way, Base Green, last night at 9.50pm.
In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: “The man is said to have threatened staff before taking cash from the till and leaving on foot. No one was injured during the incident.
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the offender and anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously quoting incident number 931 of 10 February 2019.”
The incident happened just hours before crooks carried out four ram-raids in the early hours of this morning.
The first happened at the Texaco petrol station on Burncross Road, Chapeltown, at just before 2.45am.
Criminals involved smashed their way into the garage through the shutters and escaped with cash and cigarettes.
They stole the same items from a Tesco store on Dykes Hall Road, Hillsborough just before 3.55am and from Spar on Pot House Lane, Stocksbridge, at 4.20pm.
In addition, they are believed to have struck at the Screwfix store on Rawson Spring Road, Hillsborough, overnight.
The shutters were damaged in the raid but those involved failed to gain entry.
Detectives say the incidents in Chapeltown, Hillsborough and Stocksbridge are linked.
It is not yet known whether the Screwfix raid or the armed robbery in Base Green is thought to be connected to these.
