Groups are wild about flowers

MORE than 180 sq metres of wild flower meadow will be sown in Derbyshire this weekend to mark the launch of the UK’s biggest environmental campaign, RHS Britain in Bloom 2012.

Organisers say it is a fitting start to the first National Gardening Week, describing it as an initiative which will help replenish some of the 97 per cent of wild flower meadows lost since 1930.

Groups and schools from Matlock, Ridgeway, Chesterfield, Dronfield, Ashbourne, Darley Dale and Bakewell are among 1,200 across the UK, who will be sowing some of the millions of wild flower seeds provided by the RHS, over a 48-hour period. Log onto and type in your postcode to take part.
