It could be a bit hairy but two Doncaster workers are determined to conquer the grizzly heights of Snowdon for charity.

Elise Mawson, store manager at Ernest Jones at Lakeside Village, Doncaster and Katie Stewart, store supervisor, will go bear to tackle the highest point in the British Isles south of the Scottish Highlands in aid of Clic Sargent, a cancer charity for children, young people and their families.

Elise, 32, from Barnsley, said: “Staff at Ernest Jones, Lakeside Village, are taking part in a 90-day challenge from May to July which will see us selling sweets in store, offering balloon modelling and climbing Snowdon dressed as bears!

“We have no experience of mountain climbing but we were inspired when we read about one of the store directors who completed a marathon and it made us want to do something physically challenging to help to raise money for our chosen charity.”

She explained: “We will be dressed as bears for the challenge because we sell a George Bear product in store that raises money for the charity – so it just seemed a good idea. Hopefully we’ll be the first bears to have climbed Snowdon!”

Elise has been training by taking her dogs out for extra walks and Katie has been walking into work instead of driving. The duo are hoping that the challenge, on May 31, will take them six hours.

John Magee, centre manager at Lakeside Village, said: “We are so impressed by the fundraising efforts of the team at Ernest Jones. Elise and Katie are really throwing themselves into it with this fantastic challenge.

“We wish them the best of luck and hope they raise lots of money for this worthwhile cause.” Sponsor Elise and Katie at www.justgiving.com/snowden-climb33
