The Met Office has issue a yellow warning for snow and ice from Saturday through until Monday, with warnings of potential disruption in Doncaster.

But the Council says it is prepared for whatever the latest Beast from the East blast brings.

A spokesman said: “Doncaster Council’s gritters are prepared for the weekend as, what the Met Office have termed, “wintry conditions” will continue across northern England.

“Forecasts indicate that the cold weather could arrive as early as Saturday, bringing potential snow and ice to parts of South Yorkshire.

“However, the council’s teams will be out in force to minimise disruption to residents. This includes the precautionary gritting of roads to keep clear routes, including around hospitals and Covid-19 vaccination centres.”

The council has replenished more than 100 grit bins across the borough and will proactively treat key routes and main estate roads as well as hotspot areas and priority footpaths.

A spokesman added: “Please keep roads clear so our gritters can pass.

“Residents are asked to take caution should the forecast snow arrive and to only travel if it is critical. This is to reduce the potential strain on our emergency services.

“If you must travel then please plan your journey whether it be on foot, by car or on public transport.”

There are no plans at this moment to suspend Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) or bin collections. However, both services are weather dependent and a judgement call on the safety of crews and members of the public, in due course.
