Gritters are ready to tackle a cold snap expected to hit Sheffield at the start of next week.

The city council’s Streets Ahead team has prepared its fleet after forecasters predicted ice and a sharp drop in temperature on Monday, lasting into Tuesday morning.

Contractors from Amey will finalise plans for gritting this weekend when more detailed information becomes available.

Coun Jack Scott, Sheffield Council cabinet member for environment, recycling and streetscene, said: “Our contractor is always on standby to grit the main routes around the city

“We want to give people advance notice of potential changes in weather conditions so they take care when travelling, plan their journeys and check that vehicles are ready for winter.”
