Grinding work next to roof sparks two fires at firm

Fire crews were called to the same South Yorkshire manufacturing business twice in a day to tackle blazes .

They attended BRC Manufacturing on Whaley Road, Barugh Green, Barnsley, on Saturday, at 10.20am, before turning at 6pm.

A South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue spokesman said: “Metal grinders were being used too close to a roof that was covered in dust which caused the fires.

“No workers were injured in the incidents.

“Three fire stations attended the incidents.”

Fire crews also attended a fire in a mobile building on Wath Road, Brampton, Rotherham, the same night at 10pm.

The cause was believed to be a fuse box which caught fire.

Two fire engines attended the scene.
