Grimethorpe Band to raise plenty of brass

Have your say

INTERNATIONALLY renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Band will perform a charity concert at 7.30pm on Thursday to raise funds for the Sheffield Citadel Salvation Army Corps.

The band, which has featured on film, TV and radio and has an international reputation for excellence on the concert and contest stage, will perform its second concert at the corps, having raised more than £1,000 at a previous concert to support the church’s work.

This year’s fundraiser will support the church’s alternative, midweek family church - eXpressions.

Realising that time constraints often prevent families attending Sunday church services, the corps church started a midweek meal and church service at a convenient time.

Corps officer, church leader Major Paul Westlake, said: “Life is busier and more stressful than ever for families as they try to juggle work, home and other commitments. Often church is just one more item to ‘fit in’. Through eXpressions, the corps has provided families with opportunities to take a break for informal church activities, to spend time together in a relaxed environment.”
