Controversial plans for a site for travelling showpeople on the sand and gravel quarry off Mosscroft Lane, Hatfield, have been granted.
Some 951 objections were received by Doncaster Council in relation to the plans, which include the addition of 18 pitches, a new access road on Mosscroft Lane and a ‘Package Treatment Plant’ for sewage.
Speaking in objection to the plans, local Coun Martin Williams said: “This application has taken nearly three years to come to planning committee. I believe there are so many uncertainties that in cricket terms it should go to the third umpire - namely the planning inspectorate.
“This development is totally wrong - in the wrong place, on the wrong site.”
Applicant Roger Tuby said: “We believe this is an ideal site and that’s why it has been recommended for planning permission.
“We look forward to working with the community, for the community.”
