Green light expected for Advanced Manufacturing Park expansion

Rotherham Council planners have recommended proposals to build three more units with a total combined floor space of almost 7,000 square metres is given the go-ahead by councillors.

The application has been submitted to launch the second phase of development for the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Brunel Way, Waverley.

A report by council officers said: “It is considered that the proposed development would represent an acceptable and appropriate form of development on this vacant sustainable site.”

It is intended the new buildings will provide further ‘high-quality business, manufacturing and office floor space’ at the site on vacant scrubland to the east of the current park.

The AMP is a 100-acre site on the Rotherham-Sheffield border and is a joint venture between public and private sector organisations including Harworth Estates, which owns the land.

More than 700 people currently work on the site, with firms based there including Rolls-Royce, Castings Technology International (CTi), TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire) and the Nuclear AMRC.

A statement in support of the plan by the developers said: “The proposals also accord with the framework in that they represent sustainable development and provide a commitment to securing economic growth in order to create jobs and prosperity.

“These exciting proposals will further enhance the AMP and will continue to assist in the economic development and regeneration of this area.”

The application will be considered by Rotherham Council’s planning committee at a meeting on Thursday morning at the Town Hall.
