Green energy target failure

SHEFFIELD Council has been criticised by Green Party members for failing to generate any significant amounts of renewable energy.

The authority set a target of producing 10.6MW by 2010 but no schemes such as wind farms have progressed - unlike other areas of South Yorkshire such as Barnsley and Rotherham, where schemes have gone ahead.

Green Central ward Coun Jillian Creasy said: “Despite promises to take green issues seriously, this Lib Dem Administration has shown no real interest in reaching its own target. Sheffield now lags behind many local authorities in taking action .”
