Deepcar Village Hall has received a £7,000 windfall to help make it a more comfortable and energy-efficient community hub.

The grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust will go towards replacing the ceiling, lighting and insulation in the hall, on Helliwell Lane.

The cash boost will help the Deepcar Village Community Association to continue its ongoing work to improve the hall, which has already received a new boiler and repairs to the windows.

Brian Middleton from the association said: “This grant is great news for Deepcar and the hall’s users. By improving our facilities we will be able to provide services and events in comfortable surroundings, which we hope will revive the local community spirit.”

Paul Taylor, executive director of the Veolia Environmental Trust, said: “We have been supporting community and environmental projects for over 17 years.

“During this time our grants have made a real difference to people’s lives and the environment. We are pleased to be helping the community association make this project happen and I look forward to seeing work start.”

The Trust will now work with the association to establish a start date for the work.
