Seventy five per cent of McCann’s first team squad were signed by previous manager Darren Ferguson.

But McCann, who takes charge of Rovers for the first time at National League North outfit Alfreton Town today (noon), says he will not be using that as an excuse come the start of the new campaign.

Asked by The Star about the balance between continuity and putting his own stamp on things, former Peterborough boss McCann replied: “Continuity is important, of course.

“Most of the players are Darren’s players that he brought in but that doesn’t bother me.

“I hear a lot of managers saying ‘I’ve inherited these players and it’s not my fault’ etc etc.

“Listen, I’ll take firm responsibility if we lose a game.

“It’s not about ‘that’s not my squad, they’re not my players’.

“That’s just me. I’m a loyal person. I’ll come in and get my hands dirty.

“Of course, I’ll put my own stamp on it,” he added.

“The players will see that over the course of pre-season.

“Hopefully that will rub off on them when the season gets underway for real.”

Tickets for today’s games are priced £10 for adults and £6 for concessions.

Meanwhile, former Rovers loanee Jordan Houghton has joined League Two outfit MK Dons on a two-year-deal.
