A grant with artistic intent

ROTHERHAM Council has been awarded more than £36,000 of Arts Council cash...to help hire a tent.

The Speigeltent - a lavishly decorated marquee once common across Europe - will be used to host events at this year’s Rotherham Open Arts Festival.

The 36,750 grant from Arts Council England, Yorkshire will help finance the hire of the tent, which will be erected in All Saints Square later this month.

Another grant of 29,959 has also been made to the Rotherham-based Open Minds Theatre Company to help employ a business development manager.

Thirty-two projects in Yorkshire and the Humber will receive a total of 370,367 in the latest round of grants.

Andy Carver, Executive Director of Arts Council England, Yorkshire, said: “These lottery awards will support a wide range of arts activity across the region, opening up new opportunities for people and communities to participate in and experience the arts.”
