Barnsley’s services for children in care have been given a boost by the Government which has lifted a critical Improvement Notice imposed two years ago.
The decision also affects social care and child protection services which came under fire in an Ofsted inspection in August 2012.
Senior councillors and managers said the aim now was to maintain and build upon significant improvements already in place.
Coun Margaret Bruff said: “We are committed to the continued improvement of child safeguarding arrangements, and we are delighted to receive this acknowledgement of the hard work that has taken place.”
A letter confirming the decision said there had been a significant improvement in child protection social work practice.
