Google bids to combat sharks

Internet search giant Google is waging war on the sales sharks who use its name.

It’s taken a string of firms to court claiming they pass themselves off as official Google partners and promise front-page search positions in exchange for hefty monthly fees - promises nobody can deliver.

Dodgy firms set up Google AdWord campaigns that claim to allocate pay-per-click ‘sponsored links’ at the top and the right-hand side of the home page.

But in reality Google sells them to the highest bidder.
