Good take-up of free council internet tasters

Free internet taster sessions, organised by North Lincolnshire Council, aimed at getting more people online, have made positive inroads.

The sessions, which began in February, have been attended 150 times already and due to the success they are now available at two more locations, including in Epworth.

Organiser Darren Hepworth said: “The sessions were set up to help encourage more people to get online and use the internet.

“The internet is powerful and opens up a whole new world at your fingertips – from being able to do your shopping to accessing council and non-council services and a whole range of other things such as paying bills, booking holidays and doing your banking online.

“Some people are afraid to learn and we wanted to help break down this barrier by providing the free sessions.

“They are very relaxed and informal sessions and held in an environment that is welcoming. The volunteers that run them are approachable and friendly and will go out of their way to help.”

Chris Baker, Community Investment Co-ordinator, North Lincolnshire Homes, said: “It’s good to see so many people taking advantage of the free sessions and learning how to use the internet.

“Going online for the first time can be a daunting prospect, but our friendly volunteer coaches are on hand to guide people every step of the way.

“There are so many benefits of being able to access the internet such as paying bills, using email and social media to getting the best value on fuel bills.”

Epworth sessions are held at the Link Library on Tuesdays between 5-7pm. To book a place phone 01724 862217.
