Nigel Clough took Sheffield United to a semi-final in the FA Cup semi final and two in the League Cup and did OK in the League.
But also, the team he put together never looked like scoring enough goals to take us out of League One.
He also, for whatever reason, perhaps through stubbornness, let one centre half go before a ball was kicked in anger, and then proceeded not to play Neil Collins, “a good solid defender and leader”, most of the season even when we most definitely needed him.
It’s a pity Nigel has not got the same talent as his legendary father.
I hope his successor takes a great club back where it belongs, the top tier of football.
