GONE TO THE DOGS: Sheffield hospice strikes gold at Olympic-themed ladies day

Yorkshire's leading greyhound track struck gold to raise more than £6,000 for a much-loved local charity at its annual ladies day celebration.

Owlerton Greyhound Stadium hosted the Olympic-themed event, which saw guests don their most glamourous outfits, in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.

The Owlerton team recently paid a visit to the charity to officially present a cheque for the fundraising total from the event, which came to £6,147.

The Ladies Day event is one of Owlerton’s most popular and raises vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice, which provides care for people living across Sheffield who have incurable illnesses aiming to give them the best quality of life possible.

Joasia Lesniak, St Luke’s corporate fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted that Owlerton chose to support us once again.

“The final amount raised makes an enormous difference to the hospice and to all the people throughout the city who depend on our continued support.”

John Gilburn, managing director at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said: “We have been long-standing supporters of St Luke’s Hospice and we are delighted to have presented this latest fundraising total to them.
