Going the extra mile to help Sport Relief

Big-hearted fundraisers across the region did all sorts of weird and wonderful things for Sport Relief.

At Sainsbury’s stores throughout South Yorkshire, including the Edenthorpe outlet in Doncaster, staff and supporters helped to raise thousands of pounds.

At Sainsbury’s in Edenthorpe staff and visitors took part in numerous crazy activities.

Bethany Cuttell-Bladen, aged 19, the daughter of the store’s PR ambassador, Gaynor Cuttell, raised £340 on Saturday with a two-and-a-half hour hula hoop challenge – not dropping the hoop once in all that time.

Pierre and Jazz Academy of Dance from Doncaster helped with a freestyle hip-hop dance, while encouraging customers to join in.

Gaynor said: “It has been brilliant and the generosity of people was amazing.”

Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Edenthorpe, Chris Addleton, said: “It was great to see our colleagues and customers get involved in this year’s Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games.”

Meanwhile, students went the extra mile for Sport Relief at Mexborough Academy.

Youngsters took part in a mammoth dance-a-thon in the main academy hall, led by Nichola Taberner, head of PE.

Film studies teacher, Ian Moreno-Melgar, completed a marathon ‘bike ride’ and students took part in a Team Ninja Warrior obstacle course.

It was the same story at Doncaster College with students taking part in a canoe machine marathon, table tennis fundraiser, Xbox challenge, basketball challenge and much more.
