Glasses aid African child

A FIVE-year-old girl from Uganda horrifically burned in a fire has had her life transformed by specialist spectacles provided by a Sheffield optician.

The girl named Jesca was left so badly scarred by the blaze two years ago she has no ears or eyelids. The fire also destroyed part of her nose and left her unable to go outside because dust, wind and sunlight affect her sensitive eyes.

Helen Biddulph, optician at Specsavers at Crystal Peaks, heard about her plight and was so touched by her bravery she arranged a pair of glasses, complete with a special head strap and pads, to be sent to Uganda.

Helen said: “It’s really rewarding to know Jesca could be wearing her glasses now.”
