The event is the first in a series of region-wide football galas which will take place throughout 2016, aimed at encouraging girls to get involved in the sport.

Organised by Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA, in partnership with SIV, the gala hopes to introduce girls aged 7-8 in the city to football in a fun and enjoyable environment.

Eva Egginton, Girl’s, Women’s and Inclusion Football Development Officer at the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA, said: “The first of these football galas was a huge success.

“It was great to see so many girls and, hopefully, we can kick on from here and recruit more girls, enabling the sessions to grow.

“We want to make a big impact in the local community and get as many people involved in this as we can. Our partnership with SIV will no doubt help us to achieve that.”

During each session, the girls are put through their paces with a series of football-based activities, which includes some technical activities to learn and develop their skill levels and understanding of football, and some practice games. Sessions will be held at various sports venues, and at host football clubs, in the region on the last Saturday of every month.
