Girl falls from car

A SOUTH Yorkshire teenager was fighting for her life in hospital today after falling from a powerful kit car and being hit by the rear wheel.

The 15-year-old from Dinnington was the front seat passenger in a red RVDB 5 Eagle travelling along Lakeland Drive, North Anston, when she fell onto the road and was caught by the wheel.

It has not been revealed how the girl came to fall from the car while it was in motion and an investigation is now underway. Police say her dad was driving the 250cc vehicle when the incident happened.

It is not thought that any other vehicle was involved.

Police say the incident occurred around 25 metres north of Langdale Way and left the youngster with serious head injuries, described by police as "life threatening".

It is though that her head struck the rear wheel of the car. She was rushed to Bassetlaw District General Hospital before being transferred to the intensive care unit at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A red kit car was travelling along Lakeland Drive towards Dinnington when the girl, believed to be the front seat passenger, left it while it was in motion.

"She is thought to have been in contact with the vehicle's rear near-side wheel which caused the serious injuries to her head."
