A girl, aged 10, ran off after she was grabbed by a man in a Barnsley street.
The youngster was walking along Pontefract Road, Hoyle Mill, when she was approached by two men.
One of them grabbed her arm but she managed to wriggle free and run off.
She was approached close to the junction with Beever Court at 3.35pm on Sunday, September 18.
One of the men was chubby and wore a black tracksuit top and bottoms with a black beanie hat.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police in Barnsley are asking for witnesses to come forward following reports of suspicious activity in the Pontefract Road area of Hoyle Mill.
"At around 3.35pm on Sunday, September 18 it is reported that a 10-year-old girl was walking along Pontefract Road when two unknown men approached.
"Near to the junction with Beever Court, one of the men is reported to have taken hold of the girl’s arm, for reasons that at this time remain unclear, before she pulled away and ran in the direction of the Trans Pennine Trail to join her friends.
"The girl was not injured but was left distressed by the incident.
"Officers are particularly keen to trace any witnesses who were in the area at the time.
