Getting Smart in Hathersage

Have your say

HATHERSAGE households have been taking advantage of free SmartWater kits on offer as part of an anti-burglary campaign.

More than 130 kits are being given out to residents as part of an initiative which is being led by Derbyshire police and Derbyshire Dales District Council.

Officers visited homes in the village and spoke to around 300 residents, offering crime prevention and safety advice, as well as handing out the kits.

Inspector Bryan Hall, who is in charge of policing in the Derbyshire Dales, said: “SmartWater can be detected by scanning goods with UV equipment and police across the UK are trained to look for traces of the substance so it provides a good deterrent to burglars.”
