South Yorkshire residents inspired by the Olympics are invited to a series of community sports festivals.

The first is at New Lodge Community Centre and Gardens tomorrow with activities including a tug o’ war, egg and spoon race, three legged races, sack races, sprint, relay, wellie flinging and a pool competition.

The Dinno Community Games are at Dinnington Miner’s Welfare Recreation Ground, on Friday, August 17, and include traditional sports and games including track events and sack races.

And more than 750 people are expected to attend the High Green Fun Day on Saturday, 1 September - a London 2012-themed event offering a range of sports, competitions and its own medal ceremony.

A Paralympic celebration and family fun day is at Concord Sports Centre, Sheffield, featuring taster sessions in wheelchair basketball, boccia, swimming and athletics.

And Gunthwaite and Ingbirchworth Community Games are at Ingbirchworth playing field on Sunday, September 2 - all are part of the South Yorkshire Community Games.
