Get counting for annual Birdwatch

RSPB Sheffield is calling on local residents to take part in the annual Big Garden Birdwatch next weekend, to help create a picture of how our garden wildlife is doing.

Now in its 37th year, the Big Garden Birdwatch helps to provide valuable information about the changes in numbers of birds using our gardens in the UK in winter.

And for the third time in the event’s history, participants are also being asked to log some of the other wildlife which snuffles and settles in their gardens and local parks, including badgers, hedgehogs and red squirrels.

More than half a million people across the UK are expected to take part in the event on January 30-31, counting birds and other wildlife for a one-hour period and telling their local RSPB what they see. Last year’s survey saw more than eight-and-a-half million birds spotted nationally.

Members of RSPB Sheffield will be at New Leaf Garden Centre in Dronfield this Saturday, from 10am-2pm, to explain how to make your Big Garden Birdwatch a success and offering tips on helping to give nature a home where you live. Email [email protected] for details.
