German 'twins' visit

IT was a case of 'Ey up' and 'Guten tag' when the Mayor of Doncaster met his German counterpart at the town's Mansion House.

Elected Mayor Martin Winter was introduced to Dr Uli Paetzel, who is mayor of Doncaster’s twin town Herten.

Dr Paetzel visited the borough to meet community leaders yesterday and see first hand the devastation caused by this summer’s floods. He also visited the recently re-opened Toll Bar Primary School.

Ceremonial chairman of Doncaster Council Coun Tony Sockett, who spent three days visiting Herten last month, was also on hand to greet the German guests.

Today the visitors were set to join the crowds at the St Leger as the world’s oldest classic returned to Doncaster’s Town Moor racecourse.

The big race gets underway at 3.15pm.
